Hello! I think we need to start off by saying a huge thank you to everyone that came to our bbq at Julia’s 2 weeks ago and to Julia for hosting. Thanks to the Troubled Monk for always providing a stellar place to enjoy good company and great beer. Thank you to everyone for all the kind words, cards, blessings and support as we depart on this adventure.
It has been difficult to get a good Wi-Fi signal as we have been pretty remote in Northern Saskatchewan. Day one started off quite eventful. We made it to Castor and already had a breakdown!! We have good faith in Morrie, but the governor in the transmission went. So after some trouble shooting and some calls to friends we decided to pull in to the Castor campground for the night. Luckily Paul has some mechanic friends that could help us out by providing a new governor and we had it switched out that night! Saturday morning we headed out to Atton’s Lake Sask. Like planned. We spent the long weekend with friends and family and then on Monday headed North to visit my Uncle Greg in Weyakwin Sask. He has a beautiful place on the lake. We spent two days fishing and trying out Paul’s Kawasaki KLR 650 on the dusty ATV trails. Thanks to Deb and Uncle Greg for the amazing hospitality.
Next stop Manitoba. We have headed into Northern Manitoba by passing through Hudson Bay Saskatchewan on highway 3. Last night we camped off the highway on what we assume was a quading trail in Porcupine Provincial Forest. We were greeted last night by a visitor. While sitting outside last night taking in the smoky pink almost full moon and wicked green northern lights we could hear branches snapping and leaves being stepped on. Definitely feeling unsure of what was lurking around us. Unable to really see anything. But occasionally hearing the sound of our visitor. We knew he was larger in size by the snapping of larger branches. At times coming fairly close. Just as we were about to head to bed in the distance through Paul’s head lamp we spotted 2 glowing eyes. As he walked a little closer we could see his black figure. Judging by the sounds he created we can only assume he was not the only black bear in the forest around us.
Today we will be travelling along Lake Winnipegosis and down to Winnipeg where we will pick up my brother and his wife from the airport and head to Dryden Ontario, where Karen’s mom lives.
